Congratulations to Dr. Rajeev Agarwal, MD at Agave Pediatrics in Scottsdale, AZ – the FIRST ‪PEDIATRICIAN to use a laser beam for ‎infant tongue-tie and lip-tie release procedures (also known as lingual and labial ‪frenectomy‬ or ‪frenulectomy‬). Two state of the art LightScalpel lasers are in service now at two of the Agave Pediatrics offices (North and South).

Since the early 1990s, over 12,000 of flexible fiber CO2 ‎lasers‬ (including LightScalpel and its older generation version Luxar) have been installed worldwide and utilized in millions of surgeries ranging from facial skin resurfacing and ‎oculoplastics‬ to soft tissue ‎dentistry. The CO2 laser remains the golden standard for soft tissue surgeries across all specialties, now including laser surgery in pediatrics.

The LightScalpel laser tongue-tie release for ‪breastfeeding‬ infants is a quick and gentle procedure. The CO2 ‎laser‬ beam produces just enough of the hemostasis depth; and scarless healing is promoted through the reduced presence of myofibroblasts. Some of the benefits of LightScalpel laser treatment over conventional methods include: minimized bleeding, reduced risk of infection, smooth uncomplicated healing, and excellent cosmetic results.

LightScalpel’s 4-day training for Dr. Agarwal and his staff was conducted by LightScalpel’s founder and designer Dr. Peter Vitruk, PhD, founder of the American Laser Study Club.
