FacebookLinkedInX

Watch a functional frenuloplasty performed by Soroush Zaghi, MD, of the Breathe Institute, using a LightScalpel CO2 laser. The patient, a 15-year-old girl, a mouth breather, showed grade 3 compensating to grade 2 tongue-mobility. During the frenuloplasty, Dr. Zaghi employs both a straight 0.25 mm and Zaghi angled 0.25 mm LightScalpel hand-pieces.

Dr. Zaghi’s initial reports when using a LightScalpel laser for frenuloplasties show significantly less to zero post-op bleeding compared to 12% minor and 2% severe bleeding complications with scissor techniques. There is possibly less pain as well, according to patient reports. Dr. Zaghi and the Breathe Institue are currently assessing these objectively for their future and ongoing studies comparing the two surgical modalities.
