Scott Siegel MD, DDS interviewed about Infant Tongue- and Lip-Ties

They discuss the often misunderstood topic of tongue- and lip-ties, and its impact, not only babies’ ability to breastfeed, but their long-term health as well. During the interview at the 50 minute mark the revision procedure is discussed. Dr. Siegel shares why he chooses to use a CO₂ laser, “the most advanced tool,” to perform frenectomy procedures.

Dr. Siegel notes some of the CO₂ lasers advantages during the frenectomy procedure:

• The CO₂ laser cauterizes as it cuts, allowing for minimal bleeding, and improved visibility
• Higher precision; the CO₂ laser cuts just the right amount, to get the best result
• Minimal complications
• Typically a 30 to 45 second procedure to do a lip- and tongue-tie together
• In most cases he does not give any shots and uses only a local numbing cream
